Why not take a break from the show and step outside to discover the Urban Trees of SW1? You'll be amazed by the many fascinating and rare trees which can be found on the streets within a few hundred metres of the RHS exhibition halls. Join Paul Wood, author of 'London's Street Trees', to take a closer look and learn about the rich diversity and cultural heritage of trees in our cities. Participants will be provided with a learning journal for them to record and document what they discover along the way.
'London's Street Trees' by Paul Wood was given rave reviews by 'The Garden' magazine this year: 'a joy for gardeners and plantaholics everywhere' and 'a fashionably populist guide to special trees that is brave enough to assume the reader's interest and, consequently provide a thoroughly fitting tribute'. The book will be available to buy on the day.
Aquascaping expert George Farmer will demonstrate the art of making a miniature aquatic garden. Using a glass container, a selection of aquatic plants, moss and landscaping materials you will create your very own miniature aquascape to take home and admire. All materials are included, please note that the aquascape will be taken away with care instructions.
Join Susannah Hall from London Permaculture at this botanical tie dye workshop where you will learn how to make plant dyes. These dyes will then be used to create tie dye silk samples for you to take home, offering inspiration for your own plant dye projects. All materials included.
Join the Rootlabs team to learn about all about the science behind soilless growing techniques and build a working system on the day. In this interactive workshop you will learn all you need to know about high-tech growing methods that can be applied to the home or garden, to grow delicious fresh salads and herbs throughout the year. You will have a hydroponically grown herb plant to take home and grow. All materials supplied.
TV garden presenter, Juliet Sargeant will share the secrets of some of those plants that you can eat, but no-one talks about..the edible ornamental plants. There are lots of plants that are growing in colourful planting beds all around the country, but no-one knows they taste as good as they look. Our chef will prepare unusual tasters, such as stuffed hosta leaves, hibiscus flower marmalade, dahlia root rosti and pyracantha chutney. You will be surprised at how good they taste, inspiring you to grow new plants and try cooking with familiar ones too. Limited places, recommended to book in advance.
